Here we will list opportunities for Master Gardeners looking for
volunteer hours, or just the fun of helping others while practicing
gardening in Fairbanks.
Included are also a few paid positions. Links are emails or go to pages or other sites with more information.
Greetings from the Alaska Division of Agriculture-
As a member of Alaska’s plant industry (greenhouses,
nurseries, landscape architects and more) you significantly influence the
quality of products that consumers are planting in their yards, gardens
and landscapes. We recognize the substantial benefits of your products and
services.
This winter and spring the Division of Agriculture
is establishing a cooperative program to recognize the horticulture
industry for taking voluntary steps to reduce the introduction and
spread of invasive species to Alaska. These voluntary steps will be
crafted by and for you as a horticulture industry cooperator. You are
likely already engaging in practices that warrant recognition by this
program.
The Division of Agriculture may recognize
cooperators with an advertising campaign to increase awareness of your
efforts at preventing introductions of invasive species.
We need your input to establish an effective
program that is aligned with industry priorities!
The Division of Agriculture requests your
participation in a meeting to develop this program. Meetings will
take place in Palmer or Anchorage (Wednesday, February 18), Juneau
(Friday, February 26 in conjunction with the Greenhouse and Nursery
Conference), and in Fairbanks if demand warrants. Meeting details will
follow. These meetings will be facilitated by John Peter Thompson, a long
time employee of Behnke Nurseries Co. inc. in Maryland, who has worked to
develop similar cooperative programs in Maryland, Delaware, and other
states.
See the following links for examples of some efforts
by the horticultural industry in other states.
